The Prelude To The True Nightcap

3 French Inspired Cocktails for your next rendezvous

So you’ve finished dinner and your date has accepted your invitation to come home for a nightcap. Impressed with your offer you’re on your way, don’t panic, you’ve got this! Lets get shakin’

Here are three of our favourite French (Oui Oui! :) ) inspired cocktails, from a classic to the more sophisticated and contemporary.

1. The Sidecar

A true classic is every way, The Ritz Carlton Hotel in Paris claims origin of the drink and the earliest examples of recipes printed were in 1922 (yes they were drinking fancy drinks well before us). It's a tart (no not that kind), dry cocktail made with Cognac, Orange Liqueur and Fresh Lemon Juice served in a coupe glass.. lush!

Ingredient breakdown and method below:

50ml of VSOP Cognac (any brand)

30ml of Orange Liqueur (Cointreau is a nice option here)

20ml of fresh lemon juice
Lemon Twist for garnish (optional)

Step 1: Combine all ingredients into a cocktail shaker

Step 2: Add Ice and shake until it feels chilled

Step 3: Strain into a chilled coupe glass or cocktail glass

Step 4: (optional) Garnish with a lemon twist

2. The French Martini

How could you go wrong with this concoction? Its nickname is The Flirtini, magnifique! This tipple originated from a place far from Paris, a bar in New York in the 80’s! Very disco.. The French Martini is a sweet and aromatic style of cocktail.

Ingredient breakdown and method below:

40ml Vodka

20ml Chambord

60ml Pineapple Juice

Step 1: Combine all ingredients into a cocktail shaker

Step 2: Add Ice and shake like you’ve never shaken before ;)

Step 3: Strain into cocktail glass and voila!

3. The Dirty Margarita

Everyone loves Margarita’s and who doesn’t love a dirty end to a night right? Well this mix comes to you via a gentleman called Rob McHardy of the world famous Parisian Nightclub, Silencio. Not for the fainthearted, this cocktail contains caper juice! This salty goodness puts a twist on a classic Margarita and let's be honest, who doesn't like a Margarita right?

Ingredient breakdown and method below:

40ml Vodka

20ml Chambord

60ml Pineapple Juice

Step 1: Combine all ingredients into a cocktail shaker

Step 2: Add Ice and shake like you’ve never shaken before ;)

Step 3: Strain into cocktail glass and voila!

Now that you have got three nightcap cocktail recipes under your belt (pun intended) its time to turn that focus to the L’ultimate finish to the night. So go find that Frenchie Lovers Kit you have put away, mix those cocktails and settle in for the rest of the night xx

Hot Tip

Why not level up your nightcap by playing a game. Task each other with making a cocktail and play a guessing game. Find a blindfold or get your own Le Masque and place it over your partner's eyes, see if they can pick ingredient by ingredient in the drink you have made, and for every right answer they get one of their bedroom wishes commanded! Sexy right?!
